Cheltenham Races - Gold Cup Day

On Friday, myself, Ashleigh and two of our friends, Molly and Claire, headed off to the last day of Cheltenham Festival - Gold Cup Day.

Ready for the races.

We live in Gloucestershire, so each year when the Cheltenham Festival rolls into town it's a pretty big deal. Cheltenham transforms into a buzzing, vibrant town full of avid racegoers and A LOT of Irish folk.

Around 200,000 cram into the picturesque spa town for four days of action packed horse racing and to get pissed. It's hella fun and for the past few years it's kinda been a tradition to head out on Gold Cup Day to soak up the atmosphere.

This year we wanted to actually attend the races on the final (and best) day - Gold Cup. We decided it was about time we checked out what all the fuss was about.

You can't have a day at the races without a slap up brekkie. Ash prepared bacon, pancakes, fruit and pastries and it was deeeee-lish. It may have been 10am but you had to have a glass of Bucks Fizz to go with breakfast.

Brekkie a la Ashleigh.

Thanks to the weather we had to be mindful when it came to our fashion choices. I wore a bright yellow blazer, which is very unlike me, but I loved it from Missguided, and paired it with an Oh My Love pencil skirt, top from ASOS, necklace from Miss Selfridge and heels from New Look.

Ash wore the most amazing Zara dress which showed off her slinky bod and a faux fur stole and flatforms. Needless to say we felt very posh and sophisticated as we headed off to the races.

We paid a little extra for Club Enclosure as we wanted to experience the best possible day out. Unfortunately thanks to the rain we couldn't make the most of the outdoors, but we did take full advantage of the Champagne Bar at the top of the Grandstand.

The view.

The day went by quickly in a haze of champagne, cheering on horses, devouring an Italian meal in the evening and carrying on the party with the Irish into the night.

If you've never been to the races before I thoroughly recommend it. It's a great day out and you get to dress up and potentially win money. What's not to love about that!?
